Are Pelican ™ cases waterproof?

Are Pelican ™ cases waterproof? We get this question a lot, which is why we wanted to answer. With numerous Pelican ™ product lines, it can be confusing as to which style maintains waterproof status.

Pelican ™ injection mold cases (Protector, Storm, and Air) are built airtight and watertight. These product lines have an installed PRV (pressure relief valve) that equalizes pressure and keeps water out, as well as an O-ring in the lid to seal the case when closed. These watertight cases are tested to IP67 immersion standards. For an entire list of Pelican ™ injection mold case sizes, visit https://customcasepros.com/injection-mold-case/.

Pelican ™ Hardigg ™ rotational molded or single-lid containers are built water resistant, with watertight options. The double-walled rim for a tongue and groove seal remains sealed after impact, providing splash and rain resistance. Hardware options such as a PRV and a closed loop gasket can be installed to achieve complete watertight construction. Just remember, Pelican ™ cases keep water out ONLY when they are closed. Seems obvious, right? Well, not to everyone. One customer didn’t understand why their gear was wet when they opened up the case after a training mission. A short discussion led us to realize the gear was not properly dried prior to storing, meaning it was already wet when placed inside the case. Configured to be watertight, this single lid case performed perfectly by also keeping the water locked inside. So, maybe we should clarify: Pelican ™ cases will keep water out…but be mindful, they will also keep water in.
