Adapting Vault Pistol Storage for Optics-Equipped Handguns
Background
As optics-equipped handguns become increasingly common, customers are seeking protective storage solutions that accommodate added height and accessories without compromising organization or protection. Through a collaborative effort with Pelican, Custom Case Pros worked to reimagine an existing Vault pistol case concept to address this evolving requirement.
This project demonstrates how Pelican’s authorized technical packaging partners help translate real-world customer feedback into scalable, repeatable solutions that extend beyond a single customer application.
Challenge
A customer approached Custom Case Pros seeking a modified version of the Vault V300PF5 Universal 5-Pistol Case. While the existing configuration met the quantity and organization requirements, it did not provide sufficient depth to safely accommodate pistols equipped with mounted optics.
The challenge was to maintain the integrity, organization, and user experience expected from a Vault pistol case while increasing internal clearance and improving magazine storage, without creating a one-off solution that would be difficult to replicate or scale.
Solution
Rather than altering the existing Vault V300PF5 configuration, Custom Case Pros collaborated with Pelican to evaluate alternative Vault platforms that could better support the customer’s needs.
The Vault 550 case was identified as an ideal foundation, offering additional internal depth while preserving the durability and form factor associated with the Vault line. Using customer-supplied reference imagery, a new foam layout was developed that included:
- Deeper pistol cutouts to accommodate optics-equipped handguns
- Dedicated, matching magazine slots for improved organization
- A clean, repeatable layout designed with scalability in mind
The result was a refined configuration that not only solved the immediate customer challenge but also introduced a concept with broader market relevance. Pelican is currently reviewing this configuration as a potential future product offering.
