Casters for Single Lid Cases: Mobility Made Easy

When it comes to transporting heavy-duty single lid containers, the right caster setup can completely change the way you move. Whether you’re rolling across a warehouse floor, loading gear into a truck, or simply repositioning a case on-site, casters provide the mobility and convenience you need to keep operations efficient. Pelican offers several caster options designed to fit different case sizes, weights, and use environments.

image005Edge Casters: Compact and Convenient

Edge casters are mounted on the container’s edge, allowing you to tilt and roll the case when needed. They’re perfect for saving space while keeping the case stable when stationary.

  • Mold-In Edge Casters
    Some cases feature molded-in pockets specifically for edge casters. Each set includes two casters bolted through the molded pocket. Each caster supports up to 75 lbs. (34 kg), giving the case a rolling load capacity of 150 lbs. (68 kg). A handle on the opposite end makes rolling easy, and the case remains fully stackable. Cases with part numbers ending in “W” (such as AL3018-0802W) include this feature.

  • Bolt-On Edge Casters
    Designed for containers without molded pockets, bolt-on edge casters are mounted directly to the case exterior. Like molded-in casters, each set supports 150 lbs. (68 kg) total. The standard housing is plastic, but a metal housing is available for added durability—both versions offer the same load capacity.

Bottom Casters: Full Rolling Capability

For cases that require more mobility, bottom casters provide effortless transport by allowing the case to roll flat rather than tilt. These are especially useful for heavier loads or frequent movement.

  • Removable RSID (Quick Clip) Casters
    Designed for single lid cases, RSID setups use four small QuickClip aluminum plates to mount four casters, available in 3.5″ (88.9 mm) or 5″ (127 mm) wheel sizes. These casters can be mounted in recessed areas on the bottom or sides of cases, offering flexibility in setup.

  • Removable RBTM Casters
    Compatible with both single lid and rack cases, RBTM casters mount on the bottom with two full-length aluminum plates, each holding two casters. Available in 3.5″ or 5″ sizes, these are always mounted perpendicular to the bottom ribs on single lid cases for maximum stability.

Important Notes

  • Not all rotationally molded cases support bottom casters.

  • Each caster supports up to 250 lbs. (113.4 kg).

  • In the standard configurator, bottom casters and skid runners cannot be selected together—but our engineers can customize cases to include both if required.
